The FAA has released new Practical Test Standards (PTS) for the Instrument Rating. The new standards, effective January 2010 have been updated to reflect current rules, operating procedures, and technology. This new edition adds special emphasis areas for icing hazards, anti-icing and deicing equipment and operations, and single-pilot resource management. A new Area of Operation has been added for Preflight Preparations: Pilot Qualifications. A Judgment Assessment Matrix was added as an Appendix. Throughout the book, readers will find new and additional entries outlining requirements on advanced technologies, including GPS, glass cockpits, terrain and weather displays.
The Practical Test Standards are guides written by the FAA for students, instructors, and FAA-designated examiners to know what is expected of pilots during a checkride. ASA reprints the most current FAA Practical Test Standards in handy, cockpit-sized booklets.
8081-4E is available in the "Baker's Dozen" package: a boxed set for countertop display that includes 13 books for the price of 12. Each PTS is soft cover, 5-1/4" x 8-1/4". 64 pages.
